He’s Back!

From Tuesday January 5, 2010 The Echo is back in local hands as David Kennedy, once again, takes the helm of The Echo, your local newspaper.

David Kennedy was one of the founders of The Echo back in 1980. After 25 years building the newspaper he sold it to the Leinster Leader who subsequently sold it to a Scottish company Johnson Press (JP).

For the past year and a half David has been in negotiations with JP to buy back the family business. He finally secured the deal to take back control in January 2010, the beginning of a new decade and the year that sees the 30th anniversary of The Echo.

From our next edition and over the coming weeks you will see changes – changes for the better – the return to our masthead The Echo – the return of EchoJoe – the return of Echo on tour – the return of our Thursday publication day – the return of your local newspaper in local hands.
