Marie’s Liverpool dreams set to become a reality

By Maurice Garvey

THE family of a grandmother suffering a fatal illness have expressed their gratitude to everyone who supported them to help turn dreams into a reality.

In August, The Echo reported how a Ballyfermot family had made an appeal for Marie Wright to see her beloved Liverpool for the first time.

Marie (67), from Cleggan Road, was diagnosed with lung cancer in February, and initially given weeks to live, but will be travelling over to Anfield on September 10 to see her heroes play against Leicester City thanks to the goodwill of Reds supporters.

Many offers flooded in for the family for tickets and assistance, and the D15 Liverpool supporters club managed to source Marie tickets.

The remarkable success story has since appeared in the Liverpool Echo and a number of Irish publications.

The D15 supporters group met up with Marie at the family home this week to present her tickets, and hand over her very own Liverpool jersey.

Janice Wright, Marie’s daughter said: “We had lots of offers of meeting players and an official invite to a fundraising night in Liverpool. We are truly grateful to everyone for their support.”

Marie is looking forward meeting fellow Reds fans during the weekend, and win or lose, the trip is guaranteed to be a success.
