Summer Festival is in full swing with plenty of activities

By Maurice Garvey

THE BALLYFERMOT Summer Festival is in full swing this week, having kicked off on Friday, it runs until July 14 with a range of free activities and entertainment events at multiple locations.

Ballyfermot Youth Service hosted the popular Canal Splash on Sunday at Grand Canal 7th Lock, which saw participants engage in different activities, including paddle boarding, water polo, snorkeling, and cycling along the canal.

Over 35 events are scheduled to take place throughout the course of the Summer Festival (June 27 to July 14), which follows on from the successful 70th birthday celebrations of the area last year.

The festival is funded by Dublin City Council, and has seen a number of community and statutory groups coming together to put on a range of cultural, sporting and social events.

Festivities were launched on Friday at Ballyfermot Library, by Ballyfermot Chapelizod Access Group – whose performance demonstrated inequalities and barriers facing disabled people.

Among the activities lined up over the next few days are a play and a short film festival in Familibase, Irish dancing in Tesco carpark, mental health awareness and a history talk on Constance Markievicz.
