Council comes to the rescue of pensioner (81) with wasps’ nest in eaves

A PENSIONER who felt it was “not fair” that she was told by the council to take care of a wasps’ nest at her home by herself is now relieved to have got rid of it.

Nora Clinton (81), a longtime resident at the elderly complex in Neilstown Village Court, noticed a steady stream of wasps entering her roof via the exterior last Thursday.

“A neighbour contacted South Dublin County Council on my behalf, but was told I have to get rid of them myself or hire an exterminator,” said Nora to The Echo.

“That’s not fair. I’m a good tenant, always pay my rent and was one of the first to move in here 21 years ago. If I was made of money I wouldn’t mind, but I’m on a non-contributory pension. The idea when I moved in, was that I look after the inside and they look after the outside.

“I tried cider, sugar and vinegar after looking up solutions to the wasp nest with my daughter, but they didn’t work. My neighbours haven’t noticed any problems with wasps, but I live right above a crèche.”

Nora said she contacted the caretaker of the elderly complex and was given a phone number to call, but she couldn’t get through to anyone in the council.

After The Echo contacted South Dublin County Council the matter was referred again to the caretaker for the Older Persons Housing complex in the Neilstown area and it was sorted.
