A WOMAN (69) who allegedly made an exaggerated insurance claim has appeared before Blanchardstown District Court.

Judge Paula Murphy put back Winnifred Lawrence’s case to find out the value of the alleged claim.

Blanch Courthouse 4

Lawrence, with an address at Moorfield Grove, Clondalkin, is charged with dishonestly by deception inducing a named woman to do an act to wit believe you were another woman with the intention to make a gain contrary to Common Law at the Blackrock Clinic, Rock Road, Blackrock, County Dublin, on December 7, 2017.

Giving evidence of arrest, charge and caution, Sergeant Maria Callaghan told Judge Murphy that the DPP had directed summary disposal.

Judge Murphy asked what was alleged.

Sgt Callaghan said it will be alleged that Lawrence made a claim against RSA insurance and they thought it was exaggerated.

The Sgt added that it will be alleged that on December 7, 2017 Lawrence was asked by RSA to attend their doctor at The Blackrock Clinic.

Sgt Callaghan said it will be alleged that RSA reported the incident to the gardai in Lucan. She added that it will be alleged that the investigating Garda attended the clinic on the day of the appointment and found Lawrence to be acting suspiciously.

Judge Murphy asked what was the value of the alleged claim. Sgt Callaghan asked the Solicitor from the DPP to find out. The case was briefly adjourned.

When it was recalled the Solicitor for the DPP said the value of the alleged claim was not in the files and she had tried to contact the prosecuting Garda but was unable to make contact.

Judge Murphy remanded Lawrence on continuing bail to a date in February to find out the value of the alleged claim and to consider jurisdiction.
