There are no health implications as a result of hard water

THERE are no health implications as a result of a hard water supply in Lucan, the area committee of South Dublin County Council heard last week, reports Brendan Grehan.

Councillor Liona O’Toole had tabled a question asking if Irish Water (IW) were prepared “to provide a report of the issues raised in a previous petition including how many signed the petition."

The Council replied that in November Irish Water provided reports to the Lucan Area Committee.

In November, The Echo reported that IW had received 10 complaints from customers in Lucan and Clondalkin areas regarding hard water.

The LAM had also requested IW to issue leaflets “to all properties in the Lucan area”.

IW’s response to this was they regularly change water supplies across the country and they cannot carry out a leaflet drop every time this happens.

The meeting also heard: “IW immediately lets consumers know if there are any health implications with their water supply, as it is legally obliged to do. There are no health implications as a result of a hard water supply.”

The members of the LAM also heard that IW hold Councillor Clinics regularly in South Dublin.

These take place quarterly and the next clinic is arranged for noon to 1pm on March 11 next.
