A NEW exhibition will show the creativity and dedication of one of Rua Red’s most active volunteers.

Artist John Paul Condron’s work focuses on a floral theme, which his exhibition explores.

His work will be displayed on the Rua Red Café wall throughout the month of January.

According to the arts centre, his dedication to his theme and his variations of it results in ‘an impressive and complex body of work’.

John Paul, who is from Tallaght and is supported by Cheeverstown, uses a variety of mediums to achieve this. He said: “I like best to draw with markers and colored pencils and also to paint.

“Superheros and flowers are my favorite thing to draw. I sometimes do pictures about football teams. I love making pictures, my bedroom is full of my pictures. I like to keep working in the studio.”

In addition to being a volunteer and artist at Rua Red, John Paul is a founding member of the centre’s DoubleTAKE Studio. The studio was established in 2010 by Tallaght Community Arts to support artists with disabilities and allow them to meet and integrate with other artists.

According to Rua Red, DoubleTAKE is a space where people can “meet, think, discuss and make arts work in their own time”, and people are supported and guided by an artist mentor.

Director of Rua Red Art Centre Malíosa Boyle commended John Paul’s work, saying: “We are delighted to show John Paul’s body of work.

“He has become part of the fabric of this building; John Paul is a regular volunteer with us.

“To show what he has achieved throughout his time with DoubleTake studio in our Café is an honour for us here at Rua Red.”
