No comment from Church of Scientology amid Victory Centre rumours

SPECULATION on the new owners of the Victory Centre on the Firhouse Road continues this week, after hoarding was recently erected around the grounds of the former Christian Church and work crews moved on site.

The state-of-the-art Christian church and community centre, which has been closed since 2013, was bought by Goldman Sachs when it purchased a portfolio of loans from Llyods Bank in July 2015.

Hoarding was erected around the site recently and several containers and a mobile office moved onto the grounds.

A number of sources have told The Echo that the Church of Scientology is moving into the building and plan to use the facility as a headquarters, with this information now circulating around the local community.

However, despite numerous emails and phone calls to the Church of Scientology, a response has not yet been received – with the church neither confirming or denying reports that it is the new occupier of the Firhouse Road facility.

The Echo also made contact with the construction company managing the site, but they declined to confirm who they are working for.

Since the Victory Centre went into receivership and its doors closed, the building has been at the centre of many discussions locally as residents and elected representatives called for the facility to be used for community purposes.
