Teenage cyclist hospitalised with serious injuries after hit-and-run

GARDAI are investigating a hit-and-run incident in Tallaght last night, which resulted in a teenage cyclist being brought to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a black car.

According to Gardai, a 14-year-old cyclist was struck by a car on the Cheeverstown Road at around 8.50pm last night (Sunday, February 4) – after which, the driver of the car left the scene.

The young cyclist was brought to the ICU unit in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, where he is currently being treated for serious injuries.

The Echo understands that the 14-year-old has suffered multiple fractures, with his family encouraging anybody with information to come forward.

In a statement to The Echo, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating a serious road traffic collision that occurred on Sunday evening, 4th February, 2018 at approximately 8.50pm on Cheeverstown Road, Tallaght.

“A 14 year old male pedal cyclist was struck by a car, which failed to remain at the scene.

“The youth was taken to Crumlin Children's Hospital where he is in a serious condition. 

“Investigations are ongoing.”

According to gardai, who are seeking assistance from the public, the car involved is described as a black saloon car, possibly a VW Passat or a Saab.
