Jobstown boxers make presence felt

JOBSTOWN Boxing Club made its presence felt at this season’s Dublin Championships.

While Ryan Dunne received a walkover on his way to the Youth Two 46kg title and, with it, a place in the All-Ireland semi finals later this month, his clubmate Scott O’Connor made it as far as the Boy Two 46kg title decider where he was edged out by Bobby Flood of Cabra.

Luke Reilly (Boy Two 35kg) and Cillian Reilly (Boy One 37kg) both turned in solid performances despite losing out in the preliminaries.

“All three beaten boys are only eight months boxing and took on current league and Irish champions, showing great heart and skills,” said Jobstown coach Amanda Spencer.

“Also, all these lads had to walk to the National Stadium for the weigh-in in the snow storm because there was no transport available.

“We set out at 7.30am and they walked through mountains of snow. All of them where freezing and starving and very worried we would not make it, so they are champions for this reason,” Spencer also pointed out.

Josh Olanyian, competing at Boy Three 62kg, lost out on a split decision in a straight final against Joseph Hutchinson of Neilstown BC.

He still goes forward to the All-Ireland Champion-ships alongside Dunne as he is the current Irish champion.
