Templeogue off the mark in their first Women’s National League campaign

GRIFFITH College Templeogue recorded a 74-53 point victory over Swords Thunder in what was the club’s first ever match in the Women’s National League.

Played in the club’s new home in Nord Anglia International School, the match saw Templeogue field a team that included six players who had come up through the club’s underage ranks with Emma Mullins still playing at Under 18 level also.

In what was a somewhat tentative start by both teams, Lauren Darcy and new recruit Morgan O'Donnell both planted three-pointers to help edge the Reds into a 16-13 advantage by the end of the first quarter.

And they began to turn the screw in the second, outscoring their opponents 27 points to five with Lynn and Amie Tunnah also both executing superb three-pointers while Berta Carrera chipped in with five points.

Thunder rallied in the third quarter, but Templeogue were still 55-32 up heading into the last quarter during which Amie Tunnah added a further eight points to her tally, emerging top scorer for her side on 11.

Carrera totalled nine points with Niamh Lakes and Lynn Tunnah each bagging eight to help their side make it a winning start to their momentous campaign.

They will be hoping to build on that victory when they welcome Trinity Meteors to their home on Saturday while the Templeogue Men’s Super League team will face off against Abbey Seals Dublin Lions that same weekend.
