There was a lot of love for Tallaght's Robbie Keane last night

Tallaght’s Robbie Keane was inducted into the FAI Hall of Fame last night at the annual FAI Awards – with the striker being recognised for his huge contribution to Irish football.

The country’s all-time top scorer retired from international football last year having played in the green of Ireland 146 times.

Keane’s remarkable career was marked last night with a host of former team-mates and legends of the game, including Pele, sending messages of congratulations.

RTE’s own tribute to Keane featured his eldest son, Robert Junior making his way onto the Pearse Park pitch in Crumlin where his father scored many goals as a schoolboy after his move from Fettercairn YC.

Online, there was huge admiration for Keane, with thousands sending messages of congratulations to the Irish legend.
