Design for N81 now ready for next phase

By Aideen O'Flaherty

THE detailed design plan for the maintenance stage of the first phase of the N81 Landscape Improvement Scheme is now complete and is expected to be tendered shortly, according to South Dublin County Council.

Initial works in the first phase of the project covered the road from the M50 roundabout to Whitestown Way and consisted of a new footpath, land-shaping and forming, new planting on central median and roadsides, and redesign of roundabout at Avonbeg.

The first phase was also extended to include a Transport Infrastructure Ireland-funded upgrade of public lighting along a section of the N81 west of the M50.

Now that the initial works are complete the first phase has now reached the maintenance stage.

In response to a question submitted by Fianna Fáil councillor Charlie O’Connor at Monday’s monthly meeting of the Tallaght Area Committee about the scheme, the local authority stated that “the detailed design of the next stage has been completed and will be tendered shortly, a briefing meeting is being arranged with the Tallaght ACM members in that regard.

“As the majority of the works on the N81 scheme is landscape planting works, careful timing of the construction phases is required.”

The scheme is to consist of three phases, with landscape improvement works being carried out at Whitestown Way and then running eastwards for the second phase, while Templeogue to the M50 will be the focus of the third phase.
