Series of talks in St Martin de Porres church

Parishioners at St Martin de Porres Church in Tallaght will be able to learn about forgiveness, faith and healing with a series of talks beginning this month.

The Journey into Freedom series of talks will take place in the Old Bawn Church from January 17, with Northern Ireland Troubles survivor and children’s charity founder, Richard Moore.

According to Mr Moore, he was blinded by rubber bullets at the age of 10 in the Creggan area of Derry, and later met and befriended the British soldier who had shot him.

He later founded Children in Crossfire, a charity which aims to eradicate poverty and help children in war zones. Mr Moore will be the first of six speakers, in a lineup that also includes cancer survivor Hilary McCann and Fr John McNamara.

According to organisers, each meeting takes up a basic element of faith in a simple and engaging way.

The first talk will take place on Wednesday evening at 7.30pm in the church’s pastoral rooms, where Mr Moore will speak.
