Boxing coach Robbie plays his part in fight against Covid-19

By Maurice Garvey

BOXING coach Robbie Murray wanted to get involved in the fight against Covid-19, and he has done so by helping get medical packs to vulnerable people.

The packs contain steroids and anti-biotics, and are to assist people with underlying respiratory conditions to stay away from medical facilities.

Murray, the Manager of St Matthews Boxing Club in Ballyfermot, is also a fitness and lifestyle advisor.

He noticed many of his clients had respiratory conditions such as COPD or chronic asthma, and researched the subject, discovering NHS had medical packs online.

Following this, he started ringing GP’s on his client’s behalf to secure an emergency pack.

“These packs are not a new concept, but they are not widely advertised and due to the current crisis,” said Murray, who suffered from chronic asthma when he was younger.

“This is not a cure for coronavirus but it would give someone a better chance of not having to go into hospital.

“Unfortunately, you have to be a squeaky wheel to get treatment. It is important for patients. Waiting a week can be detrimental to their health if there is any delay in receiving their medication.”

Robbie is proposing that rescue packs for those with respiratory conditions should be widely advertised.

He has contacted Paul Murphy TD, who he said has been “extremely helpful and has promised to bring the proposal to the Dáil this week.”

Murray said: “If you have any underlying conditions, contact me and I will contact your doctor.”
