Peter’s 180 challenge for Tallaght Hospital

By Maurice Garvey

A DARTS player temporarily out of work is using his time off to raise funds for Tallaght Hospital.

Peter Brierton does live videos from his Cherry Orchard home, chatting with people, as he tries to hit as many 180s as possible within 30 minutes of darts.

So far, he has raised over €1,250 through his PeeWee’s 180’s fundraisers for Tallaght Hospital charity page, which was set up ten days ago and will finish up on Friday, April 17.

Brierton hopes the venture is helping to promote the benefits of the mental side of darts.

“It started with people doing different challenges online, I always fall back on the 180 challenge. Tallaght man Paul Sinclair, another darts player, said he would donate €20 to a charity of my choice if I hit 180.

Another fella said he would donate €40 if I hit two, and the plan was to give it to the HSE.

“From there, I set up a fundraising page. Initially, the target was for €200 for Tallaght Hospital, but it escalated to €400, then I hoped we would reach €1,000 by the weekend, which it did. It all goes to the hospital, I don’t see a penny.”

Peter will wrap the campaign up with live shows on Thursday and Friday, between 6pm to 8pm.

“It helps past the time. My job in a factory doing kitchens and wardrobes finished up, but this keeps people involved.

“It is not just a pub game. It is social, involves travel, I represented the Dublin team for three seasons. Darts is giving something back to people, and theses donations are helping to save lives.”
