Residents concerned at anti-social behaviour

MEETINGS have taken place between residents, gardai and Dublin City Council in relation to tackling anti-social behavior at Kylemore Park – otherwise known as the Layer.

New CCTV cameras were installed over the Christmas period at Kylemore Park, ahead of a planned upgrade of the park itself.

Ballyfermot gardai say the cameras offer a “better capability’ to zoom in on anti—social activity, and relay the images back to the station.

According to gardai, there are some 20 CCTV cameras operating in Ballyfermot, Palmerstown and Cherry Orchard.

Supt James Dalton, Clondalkin Garda Station said they are “increasing patrols as best we can” in the area.

He said the Kylemore Park initiative is an inter-agency effort by gardai and the city council.

Kay Noonan, area manager with the city council, said a CCTV tower was recently repaired and links images back to the garda station.

“A meeting took place in the library on January 21 with residents, and another meeting is planned for March 10.”

Ms Noonan said plans discussed included restorative order and a “possible role engaging youths.”

Cllr Daithí Doolan believes it is absolutely vital that a revamp of the park includes “consultation with young people.”

“We have to ensure Dublin City Council engage youth services and that there is a plan to include and engage with young people,” he said.
