Big turn out for Tidy Towns Spring Clean

By Hayden Moore

CLONDALKIN TIDY TOWNS had a successful spring cleaning recently when they got back into action cleaning litter from around the 1916 Commemorative Garden and Newlands cross.

Tommy Keogh, Assistant Treasurer for Clondalkin Tidy Towns, said “We were absolutely delighted with the turnout from our first day back, the eager beavers from the local scout’s den along with Sinead Butler did a great job.”

Clondalkin Tidy Towns recently were involved with The Round Tower – Bru Chroinain Project, which won Silver at the LAMA awards for Best Heritage Project.

“We’re always looking for new members and for people to volunteer, we meet on Saturday’s at 10am outside Tuthills in Clondalkin Village.

“Our main aim is to get as much litter together every week in the lead up for the judges in June, so we need all the help we can get,” Tommy told The Echo.

Established in 2012, Clondalkin Tidy Towns has seen a rapid rise in points when facing the panel of adjudicators each year. Originally scoring 202 in their first year, they’ve gained almost 80 points in just six years – scoring 281 points in 2017.

Mr Keogh then continued saying “A month ago the committee held a workshop in Aras Chronain, and we took some fantastic ideas from that – so moving forward it is very exciting to see where we will be, come this time next year.”
