Jordan celebrates milestone birthday

By Aideen O'Flaherty

A YOUNG man who appeared on the front page of The Echo as a newborn baby celebrated his 18th birthday in The Old Mill in Tallaght over the weekend of April 6, where he was photographed alongside the edition of the paper that he appeared in as a two-day-old baby.

Jordan Naghten, who is originally from Old Bawn and now lives in Rathfarnham, appeared in the April 6 edition of The Echo in 2000 with his mother Glenda, after he was born on Mother’s Day, April 2.

The Old Bawn Community School student, who is preparing to sit his Leaving Certificate this summer, celebrated his milestone birthday in The Old Mill with family and friends on Saturday, April 7.

Jordan’s mother Glenda, who was 21-years-old when she was photographed with her son for The Echo, said: “Getting my photograph taken for the paper [in 2000] was a bit of a surprise to me.

“A family friend rang the paper up and they sent a photographer out to me.

Mother's Day

“I had Jordan on Mother’s Day, April 2. It was great and it was such a significant day to become a mother.”

In the intervening 18 years Jordan has become a passionate sports fan, who supports Shamrock Rovers and Manchester United, and he has plans to study sports and fitness in Crumlin College of Further Education in September.

Glenda added: “Jordan’s actually taller than me now – so he’s not a little baby in my arms anymore!

“I was 21-years-old when that picture was taken, and a lot of things have changed in my life since then.

“I’m married, I’ve had another little boy, and I’ve moved out of my parents’ house in Old Bawn.”

A number of Jordan’s baby photos were on display at his birthday party, with Glenda adding: “He just loves the limelight – having his baby pictures up didn’t bother him at all and he wasn’t embarrassed about it.”
