Public invited to meeting about Cornamona development in Ballyfermot

A PUBLIC information meeting in relation to plans for over 60 new homes at the old Cornamona site, takes place in Ballyfermot Library on Wednesday, August 23, at 6pm.

The development at the former senior citizen housing site in Cornamona Court, is expected to be completed by June 2020.

Sinn Féin Councillor Daithí Doolan said: "Dublin City Council will be developing public housing at the Cornamona site on Kylemore Road. This site lay dormant for too long. We campaigned with local residents to have housing built here.

“I am delighted to confirm that there will be 60 homes built on the site and a community garden for the Matt Talbot Trust. This is a win-win for everyone.

“Up to 30 of the homes will be reserved for senior citizens while the remaining 30 will go to those on the general council housing list.

“I will be demanding that a majority of the senior citizen homes go to local residents who want to down size from their council house. This way we can reallocate their homes to families currently on the housing list.

“If you want more details please be sure to come along this Wednesday to Ballyfermot Library."

Paul Keogh Architects, who are responsible for the design of the project, gave a presentation to councillors at the Dublin South Central area meeting in June.

The project is currently in the Part 8 process, it will go to tender next year, and work is set to start next summer.

Half of the units specifically reserved for elderly residents, will be located on the second floor, and fully accessible with lifts.

The ground floor is reserved for families on the housing list.
