Neighbouring Ronanstown Garda Station recorded two burglaries a month extra on average – rising to 23.
Lucan’s average monthly tally also rose by two to 26 in 2015.

Rathfarnham was the worst hit, seeing a rise of 14 burglaries a month on average in 2015 – the area had 430 reported incidents last year.

Security expert Jim Toal of Fairco.ie, urges householders to consider burglar-proof windows and doors to deter a more “effective breed of burglar.”

Mr Toal said: “The average alarm doesn’t deter the new burglar. He has all the tools of the trade to break into the average home.

“We would urge all householders to consider fitting windows that carry the police-preferred Secured By Design specification.”

Fairco were the first Irish company to achieve the ‘police-preferred specification’ PAS 024 certification on their doors and windows.”

The company offer householders €3,000 if an intruder even attempts to gain access to homes fitted with their product.
