Thieves ransack Adventure World

By Mary Dennehy

tawTHE impact that burglaries can have on local business was highlighted this week after Tallaght Adventure World became the latest company to be hit by thieves.

Staff discovered the break-in at 9.15am on Tuesday morning when arriving for work, and were shocked to find five panes of glass smashed, doors damaged, rooms ransacked and an amount of cash stolen.

Owner Dermot Richardson, who is also a Tallaght councillor, said: “The amount of damage that was done was unreal.
“I have read and heard about other local businesses being thrashed by burglars and I fully understand now the affect this has on business.
“Not only are these burglars forcing businesses to close their doors while repairs are carried out, but they are also putting jobs at risk.”
He added: “We couldn’t open to the public and weren’t sure how long we would have to close for.
“However, with a lot of help from members of the community and local businesses, we had the place sorted by 3pm the same day and were able to open – with one local business even fitting five new panes of glass for us.
“I have always been security-conscious, we’ve been here ten years and have had no trouble.
“However, we have had no option but to up our security, and our CCTV has been downloaded and passed onto gardaí.”
Garda at Tallaght attended the scene and discovered marks during their forensic sweep, which have been sent for analysis.
Tallaght Superintendent Peter Duff said: “Burglaries at businesses have been steady over the summer months, there has been no increase or decrease.
“We have made no arrests for the Tallaght Adventure World break-in as of yet, but we are pulling CCTV from the area and its environs.”
Tallaght Adventure World is operating as normal.
