TV3 officially open new state-of-the-art HD studio in Ballymount

THE Minister for Communications, Denis Naughten TD, visited the area last week to officially open a state-of-the-art HD studio at a ceremony in TV3 headquarters in Ballymount, Dublin.

Originally built in 1998, Studio One at TV3, which is located just off the M50, has been completely refurbished with High Definition (HD) technology and new transmission equipment.

This modernisation is part of an investment programme in TV3 by Virgin Media which, already seeing the upgrade of Studio Two and the installation of a new transmission system, will support the development of 3News Ireland, TV3's centralised News Hub.

TV3 also announced that it will open a news studio in Limerick, which will provide a base for 3News Reporter, Eric Clarke, to cover Limerick and surrounding counties.

According to the station, this addition will see the South and Midwest of Ireland fully covered by reporters, dedicated to delivering news.

Speaking at the launch last Wednesday, April 12, Minister Naughten said: "TV3 is highly regarded nationally and internationally for producing top-quality indigenous Irish content.

“The availability of two HD studios at TV3 is a hugely significant step forward for Irish television."

Pat Kiely, TV3 Group Managing Director, said: "We are growing our TV channels business, increasing our content production and future-proofing our distribution to reflect the growing platform opportunities we now serve.

“Virgin Media's multi-million euro investment in our state-of-the-art infrastructure is a key part of this evolution and is now enabling TV3 to broadcast over 10 hours of home-produced studio content every week-day and our new facilities will help us deliver the highest standards of production and picture quality."
