Buddhist education centre plans for former AIB Bank

THE Tara Buddhist Centre is seeking permission for the change of use of the former AIB Bank on Templeogue Road, to instead house a Buddhist education and meditation centre for public use, a two-bed apartment and an office.

The religious centre submitted the plans to South Dublin County Council earlier this month, seeking permission for the centre, which is to offer day and evening classes, with associated internal alterations to provide ancillary accommoda-tion.

It is proposed that the first-floor two-bedroom apartment will have internal alterations and an associated rear (northern) patio, while an office is to be located at the first floor also.

Provision for the apartment to have a 1.8m-high timber privacy screen to the north and west facing sides of the patio, and to the eastern boundary with adjoining property at 227 Templeogue Road, is included in the application.

Alterations are to be carried out to the front (south) and side (west) elevations, including removal of existing ground-floor cladding to front (south) entrance façade, and provision of a new rendered façade with larger glazed window openings.

Plans for the relocation of the front entrance, a new glazed window opening to side (west) elevation and the removal and blocking up of two existing windows are also included in the planning application.

A decision on the application is due from the council by December 12.
