Community invited to apply for carbon monoxide alarms

MEMBERS of the community are invited to apply for free carbon monoxide alarms before the South Dublin County Council scheme closes on January 16.

The local authority is providing free carbon monoxide alarms to people living in its area who are aged 55 plus.

The scheme is also open to residents who are under the age of 55 if they are living alone or deemed vulnerable.

Applicants must be living in privately-owned accommodation in the South Dublin County Council administrative area.

The scheme is not open to people living in rented accommodation, private or social.

According to the council, carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless poisonous gas and is a common yet preventable cause of death from poisoning worldwide.

When inhaled, carbon monoxide prevents blood from absorbing oxygen and can be produced by any fuel when burned – coal, turf, oil, gas, wood.

Anybody who would like to apply for free carbon monoxide alarms under the scheme is encouraged to apply through an online form HERE

Alternatively call the council on 4149000 or drop into County Hall for further details.

The closing date for the scheme is Thursday, January 16, at 4pm.
