Driver caught doing 51kph over speed limit during 'Operation Slowdown'

The countrywide crackdown on speeding motorists continues this afternoon, with Gardai already detecting 106 motorists travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit during ‘Operation Slowdown’.

One driver in Dundalk was caught travelling 51kph over the speed limit. The driver was clocked doing 171kph in a 120kph zone.

The large-scale operation across the country’s roads is running from 7am this morning until 7am tomorrow morning.

The operation will consist of Garda high visibility speed enforcement activities on both national primary and secondary roads.

All speed enforcement technologies will be utilised, including laser handheld speed detection devices, Garda safety camera vans and in-car speed detection systems.

GoSafe vehicles will also be deployed on the day in speed enforcement zones where serious and fatal injury collisions have occurred.
