Garda investigation underway after Citywest shop robbed

One man was arrested and another remains on the run after a robbery at a shop in Citywest on Thursday evening.

Two men entered the Spar store in the Belfry Estate around 5pm, threatened and demanded cash from the staff, and then fled the store with a sum of money.

Both men attempted to make their getaway in a vehicle parked close to the shop but crashed a short time later.

Gardai were able to apprehend one of the thieves, but the other managed to escape.

In a statement released by Gardai this morning, a Garda spokesperson said: “One man in his 30s has been arrested following the robbery of a shop at Belfry Citywest. 

“Two men entered the shop at about 5pm, threatened staff and stole a quantity of cash. No one was injured in the incident.

“They left the scene in a white VW Polo which crashed a short time later. 

“One man was arrested at the scene by Gardai. A search is under way for the second man.”
