Bushido deliver in Tiger Challenge

BUSHIDO Clondalkin bagged a heavy haul of medals at the recent White Tiger Challenge Martial Arts Tournament held in Breaffy House Hotel in Castlebar.

Regarded now as a firm international tournament on the KBI calendar and a regular for overseas clubs, the White Tiger Challenge attracted some 1,000 competitors for two days of competition.

Bushido Marital Arts fielded a strong squad that emerged with four gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals.

The Wade siblings, Abbie, Ryan and Amy were in fine form for the club, accounting for one gold, three silver and three bronze, the former, in only her second outing, topping the podium.

Frankie Ryan, currently in training as part of his first selection in the light contact national team that will compete at the WAKO Cadet and Junior World Championships later in the year, earned bronze in the Boys Older Cadets Light Continuous +69kg division.

Team Ireland colleague Zach Lamari, who is no stranger to the Irish colours, completed his weekend on a high with a gold and silver.

Joshua Duggan, making his debut for his Clondalkin club, fought in a tough novice field in which he was just outpointed in the final, while team-mate Corey Slater was also on the podium in the same division, picking up bronze.

Abigail Duggan, in only her second-ever tournament, finished both days with a bronze in light contact and points fighting.

Team-mates Cayden Holt and Alan O’Kearney were also stepping on the mats for the first time and both did very well with the former in third place and O’Kearney scooping gold.

Eoghan Devlin, in his second outing this year so far, won gold while Eimear Mannion, competing in the Ladies Novice Open Weight division, emerged runner-up in her first-ever tournament.
