Mullins’ career taking her to Hawaii

FORMER Dublin Lions player Chloe Mullins is about to embark on another adventure in her budding basketball career.

Originally from Clondalkin, the former Coláiste Bríde student, last year, left these shores to join Redemption Christian Academy in Boston.

Chloe Mullins And she impressed so much there that Division Two College side, Hawaii Pacific have swooped in to secure here services.

Despite having sparked serious interest from Miami and Texas, Mullins was never in doubt about taking up the four-year scholarship in Hawaii.

“I had never even visited it [Hawaii Pacific], but I felt that I would never get an opportunity like that again and so I accepted it,” she told The Echo.

“It is an exciting place to go to and they have such a good team that is not just in Division Two but is among the top teams in it.

“They’ve got players from Australia and Europe as well and they’ve made the Nationals the last couple of years.

“They play teams like Alaska and others on the West Coast so even that’s exciting,” she added.

Mullins previously played with Lions before moving to Liffey Celtics’ Super League side from where she spring-boarded to the US.

A lot to adjust to

Looking back on her move there, she said, “I went over with another player, Kevin Anyanwu, so that helped me settle in.

“There was a lot to adjust to. The biggest thing was that the academic level was easier, which I suppose was good for me.

“I had had a stressful year before with the leaving cert and I had made it on to the Irish team, so there was all of that training too. It was nice to get that more relaxed year afterwards where I could focus more on sport.”

Chloe, whose younger brother Jake plays with Lions, has remained involved with the Clondalkin club, coaching camps there and even recently painting a stunning mural of a Lion on the wall of their home in Coláiste Bríde.
