Plans for design and upgrade of park

By Aideen O'Flaherty

PLANS for the design and upgrade of Killinarden Park are moving forward, after the recent appointment of a multi-disciplinary team, to create initial design proposals that will be informed by public consultations.

Part of South Dublin County Council’s plans for developing the design proposals include holding non-statutory community consultations, to ascertain the views of the community as to how they would like to see the park developed.

According to the local authority, public consultation specialists have been appointed as part of the consultancy team, and they have designed and set out an approach for the public consultations.

The consultation plans include discussions with ten community leaders, contacting key professionals who work in Killinarden, contacting local councillors, and the development of two online surveys – one for local residents, and another for local professionals and elected representatives.

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the council is proposing that all of these consultations will take place remotely.

The timeline of the plans includes informal public consultations running until mid-October this year, while the preliminary design and masterplan for the park and associated links are to be complete by the end of November 2020.

The final design and planning approval process is expected to commence either at the end of this year or in early 2021, which will be followed by the statutory public consultation period, to commence in February or March of 2021.

Subject to planning approval, the council expects construction on the upgrade to commence in the first quarter of 2022.
