ST MARK’S Junior National School in Springfield, Tallaght, was recently awarded a Green Flag in recognition of the steps the pupils and staff took to make the school campus environmentally-friendly.

The Green Schools programme is operated and coordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce, to promote long-term, whole-school action for the environment among schoolchildren.

St Mark’s JNS’s Green Committee were awarded their first Green Flag under the theme of litter and waste, as the children ensured the school’s grounds were litter free and were made aware of how important this is for the environment.

Paula Noone, the coordinator of St Mark’s JNS’s Green Committee, told The Echo: “An Taisce were highly impressed with our programme that we had implemented, and they had no hesitation in granting our school Green Flag status.

“A huge well done to all the Green Committee members.

They are great role models and ambassadors and have worked so hard.
