THREE Tallaght teenagers recently received Gaisce – The President’s Awards after completing the numerous activities required to receive the award, and they did it all through the medium of Irish as they are part of a local Irish language youth club.

The Gaisce Award is for young people in the State aged between 15 and 25, and they receive it after successfully carrying out a variety of personal challenges – including community work, developing a personal skill, and undertaking an adventure journey.

Póilín Tawyodh, a Firhouse Community College student, and Danielle Ní Mhathúna, who attends Coláiste de híde, received silver awards, while Coláiste de híde graduate Tara de Breit received a bronze award.

The teenagers undertook a variety of challenges over 26 weeks in order to receive the awards, with the support of Club Óige Feachtas Tamhlacht, and they also raised money for VISIT and the Children’s Medical and Research Foundation in Crumlin in the process.

Loretta Ní Churraighín, the manager of Club Óige Feachtas Tamhlacht, said: “We are so proud of the three young girls receiving their Gaisce awards.

“It was not an easy task during these challenging times, and we are very proud of them.
