THE NEW Lidl development on the former site of the Belgard Inn is due to be completed by the end of February 2019, with recently released artists’ impressions giving an idea of what the development will look like once it’s open.

The 43-year-old Belgard Inn closed its doors last March, after Lidl secured planning permission for the demolition of the pub, the adjoining multi-deck car park and associated units to facilitate the construction of a new ‘concept’ store, plaza and retail/café building on site.

Plans for the construction of a new pub were also included in the application, with the German discount retailer additionally lodging an application last October for planning permission for the construction of a vehicular entry and exit point for the sole use of pub patrons.

Two artists’ impressions of the development were recently released by Donegal-based construction company McCallion Group, who are carrying out the work on the site.
