Active South Dublin Sports Awards 2024. 

All monthly sports stars are in the running for Sports Star of the Year award.

The Active South Dublin Sports Awards are run in association with The Echo and with support from SDCC and the Plaza Hotel.

January Sports Team

Three Rock Rovers men’s hockey

Three Rock Rovers men’s hockey team were pushed to the limit but retained their National Indoor Trophy with a dramatic win over Railway Union in Galway’s Kingfisher Hall.

February Sports Team

Colaiste Eanna U19 Schools All-Ireland champions

COLÁISTE Éanna served up a display of exceptional composure to surmount Mercy Mounthawk and land their third successive All-Ireland Under 19A Boys Schools League title, winning out 62-54 in the National Basketball Arena.

March Sports Team

Loreto Women’s Hockey Team

LORETO Women’s Hockey Team won the EYHL champions for the first time in over 15 years. The Rathfarnham side had a brilliant season winning 15 matches from 18 games while drawing the other three games. Loreto recorded wins over teams like Ulster Elks, UCD, Catholic Institution, Pegasus and Old Alex on their way to claiming the top prize

April Sports Team

Griffith College Éanna Basketball

GRIFFITH College Éanna won their first ever Super League title, thanks to a 93- 61 win over Pyrobel Killester in the final at the National Basketball Arena last month. The Ballyroan side led from start to finish in this contest, establishing a 10 point advantage at the end of the first quarter, 31-21, Sean Jenkins and Josh Wilson making excellent starts with 14 and 12 points respectively

May Sports Team

Tallaght Community School U17 soccer team

TALLAGHT Community School claimed the girls U17 Leinster School’s Football Championship title for the first time in over 20 years. The Tallaght side turned on the style in the decider when they overcame the challenge of Loreto Balbriggan in the title showdown to secure the top prize. Captained by Shamrock Rovers player and Women’s league of Ireland youngest goal scorer record holder, Ella Kelly, who bagged all four goals for her team in the final.

June Sports Team

Lucan United

What a year it has been for Lucan United senior men’s football team who secured the league and cup double. The Lucan side claimed the Leinster Senior League Senior Division title for the first time in the club’s history while they also won the Charlie Cahill Cup

July Sports Team

Tallaght Swim Team

TALLAGHT Swim Club had plenty to cheer about at the Irish National Age Group Championships in Limerick. Held in the University of Limerick over four days, Tallaght had a brilliant competition with six swimmers competing for the club between the age of 12-14.

August Sports Team

St Kevin’s/Kilian’s GAA ladies team

St Kevin’s Kilian’s senior ladies football team overcame two previous final disappointments to secure the Dublin LGFA Junior J Club Championship when they overcame St Mary’s from Saggart by four points. After losing out to Cuala in 2023 (after extra-time) and Geraldine P Moran in 2022, the Kilnamanagh/Kingswood side made it third time lucky to secure the championship crown.

September Sports Team

Knocklyon United women’s soccer

THERE was joy for Knocklyon United’s Women’s Soccer team who claimed the O’Neill’s Cup. The Knocklyon side got the better of Kilcock 1-0 in the AUL Complex in a well-contested final with Jessica Menton grabbing the winner on 36 minutes.

October Sports Team

Commercials senior hurlers

The Rathcoole side secured the title when they overcame the challenge of Naomh Olaf by three-points in a thrilling encounter in Parnell Park. It was a dramatic final for Commercials who led by 13-points at one stage in the second half to hang on for a narrow victory.

November Sports Team

Shamrock Rovers U17 women’s team

SHAMROCK Rovers U17s women’s team clinched the League of Ireland title and Cup double. The Tallaght side have enjoyed a superb season on both the league and cup fronts in what was the clubs first titles secured at this level.

Lucan Sarsfields U21 hurlers

LUCAN Sarsfields U21 hurlers had plenty to shout about last month when they claimed the championship crown.
