The Mad Editor, Edition 1 - Heros and Villains Participating schools: St Thomas SNS, Divine Mercy, Balgaddy and St Bernadettes, Quarryvale. The MAD Mag is a Creative Writing programme for 7 – 12 year olds, commissioned by South Dublin County Council Arts Office and developed by writer Maeve Devoy. It is part of Seedlings, the Arts Office Early Years and Children programme. The purpose of Seedlings is to increase access and participation in the Arts for Children and Early Years across the County and to promote the significant value that meaningful Arts Participation can play in the Life of the Child. Writer Maeve Devoy developed the MAD Mag, an innovative and creative programme that engages young children with creative writing. Over the course of 8 weeks, the children explored the Heroes and Villains theme through creative writing prompts and onsite workshops with the MAD editor, creating their own stories and artworks which you can see below and stay tuned for The MAD Mag edition # 2, Sidekicks and Friendships, which will be online in June! Maeve A. Devoy travels all over Ireland, collecting people’s stories and hosting creative writing workshops for children and teenagers. She has worked with libraries, schools, youth groups and adult literacy services, whilst instilling the importance of sharing our stories and holding onto our dreams. With a masters in Literary Journalism and years spent studying literature and creative writing, Maeve deconstructs the worlds of fact and fiction, allowing her students to make the most of both forms.
