McCabe on target as Arsenal land WSL title

Tallaght’s Katie McCabe was on target for Arsenal as they beat Brighton 4-0 to complete their march to the FA Women’s Super League title at the AMEX Stadium yesterday.

It was Vivianne Miedema who sent the Gunners on their way in this match when she let fly from some 20 yards out before turning provider for their second when her pass was directed home by McCabe.

And they refused to take their foot off the gas in the second half with further goals from Beth Mead and Danielle van de Donk copper-fastening the victory and, with it, a first Women’s Super League title for the club since 2012.

Indeed the victory put them out of reach of closest rivals Manchester City whom to play in their final game of the WSL season on Saturday, May 11 at Meadow Park.

For McCabe it was a great finish to a campaign having penned a new long-term contract extension with Arsenal back in March.

Also in action for Arsenal in Sunday’s emphatic win was McCabe’s compatriot and former Peamount United captain Louise Quinn who was rock solid at the back and also went close to getting on the scoresheet.

Both Quinn and McCabe will be hoping to play their roles in another big season for the Gunners when they line out on the UEFA Champions League stage.
