Council say bins will be installed in Citywest

ARRANGEMENTS are being made for the installation and servicing of litter bins in Citywest, according to South Dublin County Council, reports Aideen O’Flaherty.

As reported in The Echo last month, there are no council-maintained public litter bins in Citywest.

Bins will be installed by the council in Citywest

The issue was raised at Monday’s monthly meeting of the Tallaght Area Committee, where the local authority stated that their Public Realm Section had received a number of requests and representations for the provision of litter bins in the Citywest area.

At the time of the meeting, the council said that arrangements were currently being made for the installation and servicing of a number of litter bins in the area. The council added: “It should be noted that the unit owners/occupiers in the Citywest Shopping Centre as well as the centre management have responsibility for implementing measures to control litter which is emanating from their premises.

“The same requirements apply to the operators of the Luas service and to the Lidl premises on Fortunestown Lane.

“It is also the case that the main Citywest Road or N82 is cleaned and maintained by a private contractor engaged by management of the Citywest Business Complex.

“The main road which cuts across the N82, Fortunestown Road leading on to Fortunestown Lane, is swept and cleaned by the Council’s road sweeping contractor on a fortnightly basis.”
