Pupils hold event to support those in need in community

YOUNG pupils at Ballyfermot primary school Mary Queen of Angels did their bit to support those in need, courtesy of a charity drive for the Peter McVerry Trust.

First and Second class students at Mary Queen of Angels 1, took part in an event at the school just before the Christmas holidays, and the proceeds of their donations were handed over to the trust last week.

Teachers Angela Redmond and Rebecca Dunne were key organisers of the initiative.

“We had a Christmas jumper day before the break, everyone wore their Christmas jumper and brought in a donation for the Trust,” said Angela.

“We had been thinking of a way to raise funds for charity. Everyone had a great time.”

Donal Brady, Community Funding Officer, Peter McVerry Trust, came into to the school to give a talk to the kids on their work, and thanked them for their support.

“They were great at asking lots of questions,” said Donal.

The Peter McVerry Trust provides low-threshold entry services, primarily to younger people and vulnerable adults with complex needs, and offers pathways out of homelessness.

Ms Redmond said the young students have raised funds for the school before, and due to the success of the latest venture, they may look at doing a similar fundraiser for charity again this year.
