Family continue to look for support for ‘young warrior’

By Maurice Garvey

THE condition of a young boy with a critical congenital heart defect has improved in the last couple of weeks – but his family continue to try and secure supports for their little warrior.

Tristan Best Kinsella (3), from Palmerstown Woods, has Hypoplastic Left Heart syndrome (HLHS) – meaning the heart never developed in the womb, and the right side of the heart does all the work.

Proud mother Lyndsey Best Kinsella will do bag-packing in Tesco’s on October 16-17 to raise funds for defibrillators and said a recent visit to Tristan’s cardiologist brought good news.

Lyndsey said: “Dr McMahon said he is doing great and he has the pinkish colour of all hearts of kids he sees. Tristan had an echo and ecg (scan) and the pictures and function of Tristan’s heart are great.”

Lyndsey and other parents secured support from local businesses in Ballyfermot – to raise funds for defibrillators during a recent coffee morning.

With no defibrillators in the family home, or at Tristan’s school St Michael’s, Lindsey is desperate to raise funds for what could be life-saving equipment.

She continued: “Tesco started doing the blue tokens for us and we are also doing bag-packing on October 16-17.”

The rare condition means young Tristan has already undergone three major operations, is on daily medication for the rest of his life, and will have to go to London for heart and lung transplant surgery at a future date. Lyndsey is looking at setting up a charity in Tristan’s name.
