She was before Judge Patricia McNamara for a probation report.

Appleby, with an address at Carrigmore Gardens, CityWest, Tallaght, had pleaded guilty to stealing earrings worth €10 from Kolo, The Square, on November 18, 2015. She also pleaded guilty to stealing items worth €39.50 from Tiger, The Square, also on November 18, 2015.

Appleby also pleaded guilty to stealing items worth €833.50 from Dunnes Stores, and with stealing a watch worth €10 from Heatons, both in The Square, and both on November 18, 2015.

She also pleaded guilty to stealing groceries worth €177.26 from Tesco, The Square, on July 19, 2016.

Appleby’s counsel, George Burns BL, said his client had been attending a women’s group.

Judge McNamara noted that Appleby had not been deemed suitable for community service.

Sergeant Michael Ahern said Appleby had 11 previous convictions, eight of which were for theft.

Judge McNamara said she was not impressed with the Probation Report. She said: “She has shown disdain for the people that she committed the offences against. She had shown little genuine remorse.”

She noted that the Probation Services said that Appleby was at a high to moderate risk of re-offending.

She sentenced Appleby to five months jail for the theft from Dunnes Stores, to three months for the theft from Tiger, and to three months for the theft from Koko.

She also sentenced Appleby to six months jail for the theft from Tesco and ordered it run consecutive with the lawful termination of the three-month sentence for the theft from Kolo.
