12 social houses constructed in Rathfarnham/Terenure in 2017

A TOTAL of 12 social housing units were built in the areas of Rathfarnham and Terenure in 2017, according to South Dublin County Council, reports Aura McMenamin.
The council released the figures in response to a question from Cllr Dermot Looney on social housing unit projections at the Rathfarnham/Templeogue-Terenure Area Committee meeting on Tuesday.
Six of these units were built in Rathfarnham last year, with a further six completed in Terenure. There were no housing units built in Templeogue.
In comparison, the council stated that no units were delivered in these areas in 2016.
According to the council, no vacant homes in the Rathfarnham area were bought by the council, under the acquisition programme, for the purpose of social housing in 2017, compared to two houses being bought in 2016.
However, there are plans to deliver 27 units in the Rathfarnham/Templeogue area by the end of 2018.
A planned 18 units will be in Rathfarnham and nine will be in Templeogue, with 35 due to be completed in Rathfarnham for 2019/2020.
Terenure has a planned 27 units due for delivery by end of 2018, with 35 alo due for 2019/2020.
In their response, the council also gave a timeframe for a social housing project in Killininny, D24, which will deliver a proposed 24 infill, or rapid-build, housing units before the end of 2018.
These houses will comprise of 11 three-bedroom, two-storey units for four people and 13 three-bedroom, two-storey units for five people.
Under the Ballyboden social housing build project, 40 homes will be delivered in Ballyboden, Rathfarnham by the first quarter of 2019. According to the council, construction has commenced on this project.
This project will see a number of different infill housing units including eight three-bedroom, two-storey units for four people, 18 three-bedroom, two storey units for five people, two two-bedroom, one-storey units for three people and 12 two-bedroom units for four people in four blocks of three-storey apartments, with one unit per floor.
