
€100k in cash seized by gardai in Square car park
A MAN has appeared in court after being arrested in connection with a cash seizure of €100,000 at a car park of a retail premises in Tallaght.
The substantial cash seizure was made on Saturday, July 31, following an ongoing, intelligence led investigation which targets serious and organised crime involving transnational organised crime groups.
The Echo understands the cash was seized in The Square Shopping Centre car park.
A man, aged 32 and a woman, aged 26, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in money laundering.
The man and woman were taken to Tallaght Garda station where the woman was later released without charge.
A Garda spokesperson told The Echo on the morning of Wednesday, August 4: “The woman has been released without charge. A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“The man appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin, 2nd August 2021.”
According to Gardai, the total value of cash seized in the operation is estimated to be in excess of €100,000 and investigations are ongoing in relation to the incident.
