A TOTAL of 206,734 people visited Tallaght Library last year, while 889 people availed of South Dublin Libraries Mobile Library service in the same time period.

The figures were presented at Monday’s Tallaght Area Committee meeting by Liz Corry from Tallaght Library.

Cllr Charlie O’Connor (FF) praised the work of the library and said that he was “fascinated” by the statistics that showed how many people went to Tallaght Library in 2023.

“I’m fascinated by the statistics you gave at the beginning [of the presentation],” Cllr O’Connor said to Ms Corry.

“I wasn’t aware that every time I walk through your doors, I’m counted. But the library is great, it’s a great space and any time I’ve gone in, people are there.

“I come from a generation where you had to tippy-toe into a library and not say a word, even if you sneezed, they threatened to put you out.

“Whereas now your library is open, it’s available, people are in there, of all ages, reading papers, reading books, going to functions – it’s really important.”

Ms Corry ended her presentation by highlighting upcoming events in the library, including a St Brigid’s Day celebration, computer classes, arts and crafts classes for adults, and Ireland Reads Day.
