21k Virtual run on Christmas Eve for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie

A JOBSTOWN man will run 21k on Christmas Eve to raise money for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, and he is inviting others take part in the virtual run – at their own pace and covering a distance of their choice, with the aim of collectively covering 2,020k to round off the year.
Experienced runner James Lumumba is encouraging people of all ages and abilities to take part in the virtual run, however those who prefer can also go the distance by walking, in order to raise funds for the childhood cancer charity.

“A lot of things have been put off this year,” James told The Echo, “so we thought that it would be good to do something on Christmas Eve, and came up with a virtual run.
“We looked for a charity that supported children and that we didn’t think got enough funding, so we picked Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, who do amazing work.”
James set himself a 21k challenge to tackle on the day, and he’s hoping that all of the virtual runners and walkers will collectively cover a distance of 2,020k in order to round off the year.
“When people register for it, they can pick the distance and whether they’ll run or walk,” he said. “It’s open to anyone who wants to take part.”
As for the resonance of having the virtual run on Christmas Eve, James said it was an easy decision.
“It’s a day that everyone knows,” he said. “It’s a day when not many people are doing a lot because they’re planning for the big day.”
James added: “We’re just trying to raise as much money as we can for charity.”
