A TEAM of 30 gardai were involved in a targeted anti-burglary and crime operation in Tallaght on Tuesday, March 27, which resulted in nine arrests.

Led by Tallaght Garda Station, with divisional support, the search operation targeted a number of premises in connection with the ongoing Lidl investigation and also in relation to outstanding warrants.

A number of people arrested were brought straight to court on foot of outstanding warrants, while others were detained for questioning.

The Echo understands that one person has also been charged in connection with a number of offences on the night that Lidl on Fortunestown Lane was attacked.

A Garda source told The Echo that the operation, which ran on Tuesday, March 27, from early morning until noon, was staged in connection with anti-crime and burglary operations in the area and also in conjunction with the ongoing investigation into the incidents at Lidl in early March.

“There were 30 gardai working on this until around lunchtime on Tuesday and there were nine arrests in total,” a Garda source said.

“The operation was targeting crime in the area, mainly burglary and drug-related crime and we solved a number of outstanding issues with warrants… [and arrested] people we were looking for, some for quite a while.

“Some people have been kept in custody and some released on bail.”

The source added: “The operation targeted crime in general in the [Tallaght] area.

“It also shows that we haven’t forgotten about the incidents at Lidl, and there will be more days of action like this in the near future.”
