55 social housing units in Templeogue and Clondalkin is welcome news for area

EXCITEMENT came when South Dublin County Council gave the green light for 55 social housing units in Templeogue and Clondalkin.
In Templeogue, all of the developments are social homes suitable for older persons’ over the age of 55, and consists of 10 two-storey apartments and one bungalow.
The residential developments are set up to enable independent living for older persons inside of a safe area, and will be situated in Templeogue Village at the Riverside Cottages.
Speaking to The Echo, Mayor Mark Ward spoke about the addition of the 55 social houses.
He said: “They are very welcome. Any houses being built are welcomed. Those two developments in Templeogue and Riversdale in particular went through so smoothly and all residents’ concerns were met after we had meetings with them.”
The bulk of the social homes will be built in Clondalkin, as 44 units are set to be erected just off the New Nangor Road in Riversdale Estate.
A total of 19 three-bedroom houses, 24 two-bedroom three-storey apartments are going to be built along with one specially adapted unit.
The Sinn Fein Councillor elaborated on what the specially adapted unit in the Riversdale development will possess.
He finished: “We’re not too sure on the exact family going in there, but it does have a walk-in shower and widened doorframes for ease of access for wheelchair users, and it’ll be the ideal home for those with a disability.”
The new developments are set to accommodate families with young children as a brand-new play area is being made, as well as access routes for new residents to get to the shopping facilities nearby.
