CORKAGH Park was the venue for the annual Ciarán Carr Foundation 5K Family Colour Run.

Over 800 participants took part in this year’s succesful event with Dublin football manager Jim Gavin attending on the day to volunteer and splash some runners.

Having crossed the start line, attendees of all ages were greeted with the first splash of paint, the first of five paint stops dotted throughout the course.

Those passing through the second kilometre marker were met by a familiar face, that of Dubs boss Jim Gavin who attended on the day to volunteer and splash some participants.

Jim is a member of Ciaran’s club Round Tower in Clondalkin.

This year’s event is part of a new project launched this summer by the Ciarán Carr Foundation.

“In Defibs We Trust” is an initiative to create a trust fund in partnership with Clondlakin Credit Union to ensure that the 50+ defibrillators placed around the local community in recent years are maintained for many years to come along with training for new volunteers.

In the coming months, this project will focus on schools and sports clubs in the area.

Gemma Carr told The Echo: “Seeing Corkagh Park so colourful with so many smiling faces really shows why Clondalkin is such a special place.

“We would like to thank our participants, sponsors and partners who made our Fun Run 2018 such a success.

“As with all funds raised by the Foundation, we will be using them to give back to the community in the coming months by way of maintaining the defibrillators and training people in their use.”
