Spirits were not dampened by the weather at Kilmartin Street Party

RESIDENTS in a Tallaght estate decided to lift the communities’ spirits by organising a street party and fun day which took place last weekend.

A group of five neighbours – Suzanne, Laura, Sharon, Lisa and Samantha living in Kilmartin Avenue, Fettercairn decided to arrange the fun day for the local area on Saturday, August 7, after the pandemic had stopped them from coming together over the past year and a half.

Suzanne told The Echo: “We have been living here for quite a long time and the community sprits had been long gone we decided to plan a street party.

“This was our first time to do anything like this so there was a small fee for the kids, and we arranged three bouncing castles, egg and spoon races, hook a duck, an arts and crafts table, sensory table, cakes, goodie bags, candy floss, an ice cream van, face painting, connect 4 as well as tea, coffee and sandwiches for all of the adults.”

Suzanne said that the bad weather on the day did not “dampen their spirits” and they made the most out of it: “We began to make hot chocolate for the soaking wet kids as they dried off, most of the kids said it was actually better with the rain as they could slide better on the bouncy castle.”

All of the kids that attended the fun day ranged in age from one all the way up to sixteen and were all given a surprise football and art pack as well as balloons when the day was over.

“The day had lots of fun from start to finish by all adults and kids and we will definitely do this again as the community is coming together again which is great to see especially in these strange times,” said Suzanne.
