Motor showroom plans at vacant Airton House is refused permission

A VACANT property, which previously had permission granted for use as a family hub, is now subject to an application which has been refused permission to convert the property to a motor showroom.

Green Cars Distributors Ltd, the applicant, sought change of use permission of the existing uncompleted and vacant office building to motor showroom and service workshop use

(1,300sq.m).

The lands subject to this planning application is at Airton House, Airton Road, Tallaght.

Plans included the removal of the existing projecting porch and part of the first floor to form a void over ground floor display area and service workshop, along with projecting stairwells.

There was provision for an extension to the rear (90sq.m) to form part of this service workshop along with alterations to include for a new glazed curtain walling and insulated wall cladding.

Also included in the plans was new attached illuminated building signage as well as all associated drainage and site works.

Green Cars Distributors Ltd own and operate the existing multi-brand Agnelli Motor Park dealership on the Greenhills Road.

The applicant intends to relocate the business to the subject site on the Airton Road, which was purchased recently.

According to selling agent Lisney, at the time of sale, the building was to undergo a full refurbishment.

On site, the building is incomplete with no internal walls, finishes or fittings – according to planning documentation submitted to the authority.

The land in question is zoned REGEN under the South Dublin County Development Plan, which is to promote and support the regeneration of under-utilised industrial areas.

After receiving the planning application in November 2021, South Dublin County Council refused permission on February 2, 2022.

Previously, Killart Limited wanted permission to convert the two-storey office building to provide 38 residential accommodation units to be used as a family hub.

The facilities in the plans included a communal kitchen, storage space, family rooms and play spaces. Permission was granted for that development in January 2020. It appears that Green Cars Distributors Ltd has acquired the property in the intervening years since.
