Wonderful concert held for Peamount residents

COMMUNITY spirit peaked this week in Peamount Healthcare as locals from the Four Districts rowed in to put on an inclusive variety show with the residents of the centre.

At this time of year in the healthcare facility, which has more than 260 residents, clients and patients, the Christmas calendar is chockfull of entertainment and fun events.

Locals from the surrounding community have banded together with residents in Peamount Healthcare to create a masterful show of dance and song since 2018.

After a brief hiatus due to the Covid-19, the crew were back at it on December 14, and they did not skip a beat.

With Michael Broderick acting as the MC, the Newcastle Ladies Club and pupils from Scoil Chrónáin and Scoil Áine took part with other enthusiastic locals who are musically inclined to entertain upwards of 40 residents in attendance.

“The concert was wonderful,” Mary Tully, day manager in Peamount Healthcare, told The Echo.

“In Peamount Healthcare, we want to be part of the local community and that was reflected in what was a very inclusive performance – which is what it’s all about.

“It was a very successful concert.”

The residents who organise the concert – which contains violinists, step dancers and more – each year are eager to keep rolling with their new tradition and are excited to return next year.

Meanwhile, the members of the Retired Active Men’s Social (RAMS) choir were busy visiting all of the centres around Peamount to keep Christmas spirit high through carolling.

There was also a Santa Claus visit to the facility for staff and residents alike, while staff are also busy preparing for the prestigious choral competition Curfa on TG4 as part of the HSE Harmonies Choir.
